Cal Tjader

Primo
CD (OJC 762), Released 1973; Re-Issued 1993
Produced by Ed Bogas
Arranged by Charlie Palmieri & Tito Puente
Description:
Primo is indeed a primer in Latin music, with classics from the books of Machito, Tito Rodriguez, Joe Cuba, and others reinterpreted in an all-star setting. The esteem in which vibist Cal Tjader was held for his innovation in the idiom is obvious from the spirited writing and keyboard contributions of Charlie Palmieri, and Puente's timbales on Mario Bauza's inmortal "Tanga". Also included is a bonus track an alternate version of "Bang Bang".
