Editor's Pick:
This is it, the explosion that started it all! Lots of infectious rhythms from all over the Caribbean, bouncy brass, fun coros with that distinctive falsetto style made famous by Cortijo’s Combo, plus humorous lyrics delivered by the dual attack of Pellin and Andy on the vocals. Though the sound is heavily influenced by Cortijo, that can be forgiven – it was a winning formula and still very hip at the time. Standouts are the title track (no doubt influenced by fears of a nuclear attack during the Cold War), the fabulous pachanga “Mima”, and the classic straight up guaracha “Lo Que Te Gusta”, by the Combo’s top composer, the unsung but very talented Chiquitín García. Highly recommended. (Pablo Yglesias, 2008-11-05)
