With a powerful voice, a crackerjack band with a killer rhythm section, and exciting arrangements, Cuban vocalist Maria Victoria’s new CD is a quite impressive debut. Think of Celina Gonzalez mixed with a bit of Jacqueline Castellanos and Haila Mompie...shake, don’t stir. Now stand back, or you might get hurt.
Although young, Ms. Victoria, daughter of El Gilguero de Cienfuego, sounds like a vivacious, seasoned sonera on this project -- her charisma comes through loud, clear, and very danceable. This is son-salsa at it’s best.
