Editor's Pick:
Are you ready to dance? This superb New York salsa orchestra, led by musical director and pianist Ricky Gonzalez and fronted by vocalist Frankie Vazquez, is known for their sizzling interpretations of classic 1970s salsa hits. This release, their third, features some very special guests like the legendary pianist Sonny Bravo and tresero Nelson Gonzalez. It may be their best release yet -- every track swings, and simply begs for the dancers. On this project, they make some very smart selections such as "Canuto" (Típica '73), "Babaila" (Pete "El Conde") , "Evelio Y La Rumba" (Tommy Olivencia), "Las Mujeres Son" (Ismael Miranda with Larry Harlow), "Noche Como Boca 'E Lobo" (Sonora Ponceña), and "Juana Peña" (Héctor Lavoe and Willie Colón). This, folks, is a clear DJ Alert...a salseros must-have. Very highly recommended. (BP, 2003-06-20)
