Let's get this right. This superb salsa release is from César "Chino" Pérez, the Venezuelan trombone player living Germany, but who recorded this project in Puerto Rico with some of the islands finest salsa musicians and singers.
In Venezuela, Pérez was a member of Dimension Latina, Nati y Su Qruesta, Los Melódicos and Trabuco Venezolano. In 1992 he left to Europe to study at the Rotterdam Conservatory in Holland.
On this project, his first as a solo artist, Pérez went to PR and brought in some salsa elite: Luis "Perico" Ortiz on trumpet, Eric Figueroa on piano (Batacumbele, Mulenze, Cano Estremera etc.), Bassist Pedro Pérez (Robero Roena, Tito Rojas, Ray Barreto etc.) and the singers Wichy Camacho, Simon Perez, and Javier Plaza.
This is first class salsa: professional, polished, and without pretense or unnecessary pyrotechnics. Pérez lets the musicians stretch. Listen to bassist Eric Figueroa and the percussion section on "La Descarguita." It is, as they say, in the pocket.
