Before going solo in 1974, El Conde recorded seven albums with Pacheco's Nuevo Tumbao between 1964 and 1973, including 1971's Los Compadres, which captures him and the group in fine form. The opening track "Dulce Con Dulce", written by the Cuban Julio César Fonseca, was the biggest hit from the album.
