Those of us who are fans of Arnaldo love his time on bass, and his first record, Ya Era Hora... He’s all over some of the better Envidia titles, his electric bass keeps the fort of time safe, and his timba-esque arrangements and playing make music that doesn’t have so much cliché and sounds fresh. His second record goes the same way, landing somewhere between salsa and timba at times, with good singing, good tunes — Arsenio Rodriguez’s El Divorcio leads off the album — and a vital good feeling that invigorates the whole proceeding. And they cover Ismael Miranda’s Asi Se Compone un Son, one of the great tunes of the Fania era, a nice move.
