Trumpeter Pedro Rafael Chaparro — who had worked previously with Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Machito, Tito Rodriguez, as well as with Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz — turned bandleader on Este Es Chaparro '71. He went on to record El Padrino (The Godfather) in 1972 and finally Gozando in 1974. They are all fine examples of '70s salsa.
This one features Leo Gonzalez and Victor Rodriguez on vocals, Doc Cheatham on trumpet, Russel Farnsworth on bass, bongocero Louis Mangual, and Martin Cartagena on timbales.
