Editor's Pick:
Miles Peña is back with a solid, fresh, salsa release that's right on target. With the independently produced Color De Rosa, Peña establishes himself as a free agent heavy-hitter who, with a bit of marketing savvy, could be right up there with Victor Manuelle and Domingo Quiñones. Cuban born Peña hits the right marks: he's good looking, has a track record (he's been making good dance records since '93), a great voice, and knows how to juice the most out of a composition. His faster dance numbers, like the impassioned "Color De Rosa" "La Cita," and "Dime" are infectious dance club and radio-ready tracks that work. The few romantic numbers, like "Ayudame A Sobrevivir" are heartfelt and seem genuine, not forced or over emoted. Most of the compositions are his. Not bad. Support the independents. Highly recommended. (BP, 2005-09-10)
