Frisner Augustin And La Troupe Makandal

Prepare
CD (La Troupe Makandal 001), Released 2004;
Editor's Pick:
Augustin, a Haitian percussionist and religious figure, lives in New York and leads a percussion group called Makandal. He and his group run through a bunch of tunes associated with Vodou, in part from the Congo and in part from the Yoruba. This is absolutely beautiful music, the Haitian version of Santeria music, and like that music, it’s astonishing in its percussive precision, and the beauty of the melodies.
Highly Recommended. (Peter Watrous, 2006-10-11)
