***Best of 2008 Editors Pick Award*** Here’s a non-stop recording dedicated to beauty. The clarinet quartet, founded in 1988, works through a series of tunes and compositions by Venezuelan composers to Paquito D’ Rivera, Lecuona, Revueltas and a bunch of young writers from around the Latin world. They’re occasionally joined by other instrumentalists, including El Negro on drums, Anat Cohen on clarinet and Jorge Glem on cuatro. It’s often stunning music, clear and warm, full of dynamics, and as is the case with Latin classical music, more than a little influenced by the music of the streets. It’s music for a quiet Sunday morning, resonant with intelligence and ability. Yet another Cacao achievement. Highly Recommended. (Peter Watrous, 2008-02-21)
