Damn, one of my favorite groups, in full early glory. Check this out: the first track, from 1970, is 13 minutes of pure salsa joy. The last track? Part two of the first, logging in at 14 minutes. In between? Nine tracks, shorter but Colombian brilliant, pushing the sound and style and ability of (dare I say it?) Fania of the same time. Liner notes in Japanese, but who needs them, given the music’s sheer glory. This stuff is raw, rocking and great, perfect for wiping away the blues, for making your Saturday night the bacchanal it needs to be. That’s what it’s made for, and that’s what it will do. Hard core, fantastic montunos, barely contained exuberance, a bit like sticking your finger in a light socket. Yes, I mean it’s good. Highly Recommended (Now if someone would only do the same for Los Nemus del Pacifico). (Peter Watrous, 2008-02-21)
