Benjamin Lapidus
Herencia Judía

Editor's Pick:
Lapidus, a tres and guitar player, has been an intelligent, talented addition to the Afro Caribbean world for a few decades, and his newest project shows why. The tresero has been important in the exploration of the Jewish communities around the Americas, and his new recording is, as he puts it, “an imaginary creation that envisions a syncretic Spanish Caribbean Jewish Liturgical music.” So on the first track he has a traditional Jewish tune sung in Ladino, over a bomba from Puerto Rico. There are a ton of Jewish traditional songs, plus a few originals by Lapidus, all done in a son style. It’s totally amiable music, well played, and well felt. Highly Recommended.
