Damn, I want another hundred recordings like this. Pozo, a distant relative of Chano, is a mean, mean conga player, and this recording puts him in front of a heavy dance band, one that on "Auxilio, Socorro," a comparsa styled tune, has the band playing in a few tempos at the same time. The recording has Pozo, who runs a rumba band as well, mixed way up, and his sound is beautiful, and his swing just makes you want to get up and dance. On "Cayo Hueso Con Armonia," Pozo takes a rumba and adds piano and bass, and it’s about as beautiful as Cuban music gets, flexible and deep, some sort of a meeting of the John Coltrane quartet and the rumba. Good singing, great grooves; lot of people try this, and don’t get it. An instant classic.
