On a corner in Brooklyn stands Barbes, one of the great bars of New York, and Chicha Libre plays there regularly, cranking out the camp sounds of Peruvian Chicha music. The record’s pretty cool, an homage to a lost style of music that mixed rock and pop with cumbia and other rhythms from around those parts. Sonido Amazonico is great music for cleaning the house, drinking a beer etc., i.e. it’s fun, and has lots of twangy guitar, raining reverb. It’s atmospheric, and has a Farfisa organ, which puts it in rarified company. Great music for a party.
