Wow! Here's a terrific, and quite detailed, look at the legendary Alegre records label started by the late Al Santiago. Santiago was at the forefront of Latin music in the late '50s, '60s and into the '70s. His work as a producer helped boost the careers of Johnny Pacheco, Charlie and Eddie Palmieri, Orlando Marin, Louie Ramirez, Pete Rodriguez and a host of other musicians. The releases of the Alegre All Stars, a gathering of the label's talent, are now legendary. Without Santiago it would be hard to imagine the advent of the Fania All Stars -- a group modelled after his own superband.
This 2-CD set is a wonderful primer into Al's world.
