Continuing the highly acclaimed "A Man And His Music Series," it couldn't have been long before Emusica culled the best work of legendary pianist, bandleader and composer, Eddie Palmieri. This amazing compilation is not only a historic reference for the beginnings of salsa, it is also an poignant reminder that jazz and salsa are, by nature, part of the same beast. Palmieri's early work with his seminal La Perfecta band (Barry Rogers, Manny Oquendo, Mike Collazo et al...) on Alegre are all well represented here, as is his work on Tico. Also featured are some selections from his sizzling later salsa recordings on Coco records that include the vocals of a sixteen year-old named Lalo Rodriguez. Covering several decades of output (1961-1981), this collection can be considered the ultimate early Palmieri representation, and as such, should be mandatory listening material for both aficionados and musicians alike. With "El Molestoso," "Lo Que Traigo es Sabroso," "Muñeca," "Azúcar," "Justicia," "La Malanga," "Pa'Huele," "Vámanos Pa'l Monte," "Palo Pa' Rumba" and much, much more. Excellent liner notes by Ernesto Lechner. Very Highly Recommended. (BP, 2008-06-06)
