Everyone’s doing it now, the timba. So why not the Japanese, and Grupo Chevere knows exactly what to do and how, and when, and the band does a good job. The pianist, Masaru Okuyama, can lay down some tumbaos, and when the band goes into the moñas, it sounds particularly good. The band knows what it’s copying, too, and there are some corny coros that are particularly Cuban, and some lame saxophone playing (also particularly Cuban) on "Dame Cielo." So this is a bit more than a novelty; it would sound good on the dance floor, and no excuses are necessary.
