Tony Rojas
El Chino Divino
CD
(Rico Records 712),
Released 1973;
Re-Issued 2008
Produced by Tony Pabón
Editor's Pick:
Reissued here for the first time, this 1973 pure salsa release by singer Tony Rojas drips with gritty trombone chops and features an uncredited cuatrista (Yomo Toro?) who does a great job throughout El Chino Divino. Also with pianist Alfredo Dorsey, timbalero Phil Vélez, bassist Agustin Rodriguez, bongocero Israel Morales, conguero Joe Venero Jr. and the fine trombonists Lou Barbarin and Charles Stephens. Produced by the great Tony Pabón, and it shows. Full review to follow shortly. Highly Recomended. (BP, 2008-10-09)
