Moncho Rivera, whose uncle was the legendary Puerto Rican singer Ismael Rivera (El Sonero Mayor), has assembled a top-notch band on this terrific Christmas salsa cd. Pianist Luis Marin is joined by bassists Ricardo Lugo and Efrain Hernandez, bongocero Sammy Garcia, conguero William "Cachiro" Thompson, and a coro section that includes none other than Gilberto Santa Rosa, Henry Santiago and Charlie Donato. In the history of salsa, there has been a few instant classic holiday cds that transcend the holiday season and work superbly all year 'round. This, folks, is one of them. Listen to the opening track "La Parranda Se Queda" and you'll be hooked. Classic salsa, with smart, sophisticated arrangements, and an almost frenetic urgency throughout.
