Legendary timbalero Orestes Vilató (Fania All Stars, Novel, Cachao, Frankie Dante, Ray Barretto, Los Kimbos etc., etc...) debuts here as a leader, and what a killer project it is! Salsa, infused with rich Afro-Cuban grooves and catchy hooks made real by bassists René Camacho and Carlitos Puerto Jr., pianists Rebeca Mauleon and Alberto Salas, bongocero Johnny "Dandy" Rodríguez (Alegre All Stars, Tito Puente !), conguero Joey De Leon, flute/sax player Justo Almario and outstanding lead vocals by Adonis Puentes. Includes "Remembering Ray," a sublime and infinitely cool salute to Ray Barretto. It's About Time is *the* musical definition of "sabor." Certainly one of the best projects in quite a while.
