Ray’s not kidding; here’s a really strong, salsa dura release full of sophisticated arrangements and great playing. It’s all immediately obvious on the first and title track, where the arrangement just makes the music take off, with horn breaks, and solos by Luisito Quintero and Isidro Infante. The band’s pretty amazing, with the bass duties held by Ruben Rodriguez; Infante’s on piano, the singing’s by Jose Davila and Sammy Gonzalez, Jr. and Hector Martignon’s on accordeon, occasionally. The coro’s by Tito Allen, Joe King and Doris Eugenio; the whole thing adds up to music that’s going to be hard to kick out of the top ten this year. Local New York salsa at its best.
