Editor's Pick:
If you are familar with Calambuco's debut release Como En El Barrio, you are, without a doubt, ready for their killer new release Rompiendo El Cuero, a hard-boiled, highly combustible brew of salsa dura that is designed to animate even the most resistant dancers. This one is a DJ-Alert first pick. Most compositions are by pianist and leader Andrés Felipe Succar. And with tracks like "No Estás En Ná," "Si Me Mirara," and "Guarachando" (listen to the audio clips, folks!), Succar is all we really need. This guy is good. Mention, though, should also be made of Francisco "Pachito" Echavarría's primo piece simply called "Bongó." This stuff has sabor dripping out of every note. Very Highly Recommended. (BP, 2009-09-11)
