Swinging and swanky salsa-descarga jams, NOT from '60s or '70s, but BRAND NEW sessions Led by singer and trombonist Freddy Cruz in Colombia; this rockin' little cd packs real firepower. This studio session successfully captures the sound of those blistering descargas del ayer. Features a tribute to Javier Vazquez ("Mi Ritmo Esta Bueno"), a tribute to Pupi Legarreta ("El Platano de Bartolo"), a tribute to Pete Rodríguez ("Todo El Mundo") and a tribute to Africa ("Africa Descarga"). The title says "Best of" but do NOT be misled (as I was at first). This is not a compilation, and these tracks do not appear elsewhere! With bassist Danny Cruz, pianist Josias Acosta, percussionists Eder Ortega and Emiro Santiago, plus others. I am told the Freddy Cruz and friends are already back in the studio working on a follow-up to this gem of a release.
