 Tromboranga is the new salsa organization organized by the supremely talented percussionist Joaquin Arteaga, the same force behind Barcelona's highly regarded Bloque 53. This aggregation, though, leaves the vibes behind. Instead, way up front is a trio of super dynamic trombones that harken to the glory days of salsa: Conjunto Libre, Lavoe-Colón, and, as Arteaga astutely points out, the Venezuelan heavies Ray Pérez and Dimension Latina. This is amazing stuff that channels the pure essence of salsa. With singers Freddy Ramos and Diego Coppinger. A superb effort that nails it. Very Highly Recommended. (BP, 2012-05-01)
