Produced by Willie Colón
Editor's Pick:
This 1978 release contained more than a few of Lavoe's major hits. Ruben Blades gave Lavoe the song "El Cantante" to help him through a difficult time in his life. According to Blades, "He sung the hell out of that song." He's right. This 10 minute version of "El Cantante" is worth the price alone. (BP) "This is one of 'El Cantante's' classic recordings, produced by Willie Colon. There is an unexpected gift in this release, on the number 'Bandolera.' Pianist Gilberto 'Pulpo' Colon, Jr. takes a tremendous, extended piano solo, really cutting loose and demonstrating the magnificent artistry and heart that have earned him his nickname and the respect of his peers." (Vicki Solá, 98/99 Catalog) We are happy to offer the new digitally remastered reissues from the classic salsa label, Fania. Brought to you by Codigo, which, over time, will be reissuing the entire catalog with improved sound and superb liner notes too - some of which are written by Descarga.com's own virtually resident scholar, John Child. Many of these new reissues have been remastered by Jon Fausty or Bob Katz. (DR, 2011-04-10)
